8 Ways Odyssey Makes the Transition to Aged Care Easy

08 November, 2021

Making the decision to move into an aged care or lifestyle care community isn’t easy. It means uprooting your life and branching out into something new. However, at Odyssey, our team is here to help you during every step of this journey.

Here are eight ways we make the transition to aged care as easy as possible for our residents.

1. Aged Care Assist

Regardless at what stage you are at in your ‘aged care’ research journey, our Aged Care Assist program is a free service that provides you with balanced, and most importantly, unbiased advice.

Our friendly team will talk with you to gain an understanding of your unique situation, in order to then make recommendations on what aged care communities are available and may best suit your needs. We are here to walk you through your decision-making process and provide you with referrals to appropriate local services and facilities that best suit your needs and preferences.

2. Move Assist

Packing, moving, unpacking… This can be one of the most stressful experiences when moving house. When you move into Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities, we take the pressure off you and your family with our free Move Assist program.

This is a comprehensive service as we help you downsize, pack up your belongings with care, physically transport/move your belongings, and unpack—ready for your arrival in your new stunning apartment.

3. Respite Care

If you require urgent short-term care and accommodation, we combine hotel luxury with complete nursing care via our Respite Care service.

Our team works hard to ensure you or your loved one will be cared for like family and treated like a VIP guest. Our short-term guests gain access to the full lifestyle care community amenities—five-star dining, library, relaxing sky gardens, and balconies, and community support.

“It’s hard to say how much I loved every one of your staff—the cleaners, the chefs, the servers, nurse and carer—they were all so helpful. And I cannot leave out the admin staff. I had a great time. I only hope that you will allow me back again.”

— Gus, respite care guest

4. Financial insights

A common misconception from potential residents is that Odyssey is not in their budget. However, if you own your own home on the Gold Coast, you most likely will be able to afford to move into the Odyssey Robina community.

  • Our apartments range in price from $530,000 (1 bedroom apartments) to $790,000 (larger 2 bedroom apartments).
  • Care is provided at cost and you can choose the services you need and use.
  • We tailor the payment of your management fee to your personal situation. Upon the advice of your financial advisors, you can pay it all upfront, at the end of your stay, or have staggered payments.

Choosing where you will live can be daunting and finances can be a big ‘what if’ question. We chat about all of these questions in detail during our personal tours of our resort and apartments.

5. Staycation with Odyssey

Want to dip your toes in the water and see what Odyssey Robina is really like? Our Staycations are a great option to experience our amazing recreational facilities, 5-star restaurant dining, and spacious, hotel-quality apartments. You will meet our amazing staff, make friends with our wonderful residents and get to experience the Odyssey lifestyle.

6. Selling your home

Selling your home can be a difficult process. At Odyssey, we want to ease you into your new life so here are some tips to help you find the right real estate agent for you from property expert, Michael Kollosche. Michael states potential sellers need to understand their property’s value and the current market. This way when you have an initial meeting with a real estate agent, you can test their knowledge and see if they have arrived prepared.

7. Downsizing advice

Moving from your family home into an apartment can be a massive change. When it comes to downsizing (which we like to think of as right-sizing!), it may be difficult to know where to start. Kim Hunt, our downsizing expert, has a number of tips to help our incoming Odyssey residents make the transition.

Firstly, view downsizing as the beginning of the most exciting chapter of your life. It’s time to use that fancy cutlery set that’s been saved for a special occasion and treat yourself to new linen! Your new, beautifully crafted Odyssey apartment deserves the best and so do you. There is no better time to pick out your favourites and get rid of the unnecessary clutter. 8. Care package assistance

Odyssey is compatible with a range of Government-funded aged care packages. This means that the onsite, Registered Nurse care staff and team are available 24/7 to deliver your government-funded package into your apartment. All care services are provided to our residents at cost, which can often result in you getting more care hours, as there is no travel time required. Alternatively, you can bring your current care team with you and continue the relationships you have already built. Your care is personal to you, and ultimately it’s your choice.

Making the transition to an aged care community can be intimidating, but remember Odyssey is here to help.
