9 News Gold Coast recently dropped into Odyssey to share this beautiful story of companionship about Odyssey resident Ziggy and his gorgeous pooch Max. 10 months ago, Ziggy found Max at an AWL shelter and decided to adopt him. Now, the pair are inseparable and have given each other a new reason to look forward to each day. Ziggy has even managed to teach Max a few commands in sign language!
Pets can provide a sense of purpose and responsibility, which can be especially important for seniors who may feel a lack of purpose or direction in their lives. Also, having a pet can help seniors stay active and engaged, whether it’s through playing with their pet, taking them for walks, or participating in pet-related activities with other seniors. Overall, the companionship and love provided by pets can have a profound impact on the quality of life, which is why we not only accommodate for small and medium pets at Odyssey—we encourage residents to bring them along with them to their new homes.
